Yes! Spring is on it’s way.
Today is the first day of March and so I, for one, think this is the perfect moment in time to celebrate the end of another cold, wet, windy British winter and to welcome in the spring.
“So why write an article about it?” This is a photographer’s portfolio website; “surely this is neither the time nor the place to ramble on about the changing seasons?” Well, for a professional photographer with many clients in the business of selling homes and property, spring can be a busy period; in fact, in the decade or so that I’ve been making a living as a photographer it has consistently been by far my busiest time of year. And so therein lies a thoroughly legitimate reason to get excited about the onset of spring and to publish a few words on the topic.
At this time of year I find can take my foot off the gas a little in terms of self-promotion (something I’m not too fond of anyway). The phone starts to ring a little more frequently. My clients in Devon & Cornwall give me more assignments, the days are longer, the sun shines and things just feel easier. Home owners hoping to shift their houses will have (well, should have) been planning their move all winter long; keeping a keen eye on the market place, preparing their homes, busily tidying their gardens and getting excited about their next home; their next big adventure. And that’s where I come into the equation…
I’m in the business of photographing homes, offices, caravans, holiday parks and just about any other dwelling you care to think of. I’ve been doing this type of work in the Southwest for years now and would like to think I’ve learned a little over the course of those years; how to balance composition, correct use of artificial lighting, correct use of mixed lighting (available/ambient & electronic combined), what to include, what to exclude or obscure and so on…
Last week saw a significant change in the weather down here in Cornwall. The relentless howling winds have stopped and the torrential rain has finally eased. Thanks to this change in the weather I visited several beautiful home in the Southwest and have included a couple of images from each shoot on this page. There’s a couple of shots from countryside homes in the Truro area of Cornwall and a few from a stylish little basement flat in the centre of Exeter in Devon.
If you’re not interested in photographs of strangers homes (which is perfectly understandable) then please don’t leave the site just yet – you may be interested in other work I’ve done or will be doing in the future – I regularly add new photos so drop by every now and then. I photograph most things; people, portraits, events, landscapes, and products to name a few. Have a look at my work and get in touch by phone or email to arrange a shoot – if the project sounds particularly interesting or unusual and is the kind of work I’d like to add to my portfolio then I may not even charge! I’m always open to discuss/share ideas. Email me here or call me on 07966 931018.
